Toronto Dynamo + Generative Design Hackathon
July 24, 2019 - July 26, 2019Free
Apply today! Deadline is June 21st.
Have you ever wanted to extend Dynamo to solve new and interesting problems? Are you interested in Generative Design workflows? Have you always wanted to use Dynamo to create and evaluate more design options? Ever wondered if there are other like-minded coders and hackers interested in wanted to pushing Dynamo to the max and beyond?
Well then you are in luck! The Dynamo + Refinery teams will be hosting our second ever hackathon at our Autodesk Technology Centre, Toronto. The Toronto office was designed using our very own Generative Design tools. For this hackathon, both the public and our internal teams are encouraged to partner up and build new ideas together. Our team wants to empower you to generate more design options, create better tools that solve complex solutions, and spend less effort and time doing repetitive tasks.
Come hack new apps, build upon pre-existing generative workflows we have and talk with the experts who built them!
Who should get involved?
This event is targeted at both internal Autodesk and external Dynamo users who have already mastered the basics and are pretty confident that they can use Dynamo to change the world. If you are looking to elevate your skills from Dynamo user to Jedi master, are keen to encourage multidisciplinary collaboration and are able to think fast, big and outside of the box all at the same time, we want to hear from you!
Where is the Hackathon taking place?
Our very own Autodesk Technology Centre, Toronto will be hosting the event. There will be ample facilities to support your project. The event is fully sponsored, so all you will need to bring is a laptop (with Dynamo installed), a mind full of ideas and some enthusiasm (or at least some coffee…).
When does it take place?
The hackathon’s timetable is as follows :
- *optional* half day training on Wednesday, July 24
- start with a briefing session at 9am on Thursday, July 25
- will run until approximately 3pm on Friday, July 26
- followed by presentations, awards between 3-5 and a closing party.
All the activities will be located in the Autodesk Technology Centre, Toronto, which is not far from downtown Toronto and right on the metro line, so there are plenty of hotels and restaurants close-by.

Please feel free to submit a proposal as a team, but don’t worry if you do not have 3 colleagues available to take part.
The Dynamo + Refinery teams will select participants and help assemble teams with similar ideas & complementary skills, so that you can create truly epic projects.
All you need to do for now is fill in the application form here: https://airtable.com/shrnvVr8viI57pzuM
What are we looking for ?
The only rule is that you base your project on Dynamo – this is a Dynamo hackathon after all. Beyond that, you’re free to dream up projects in any domain and solving any problem – the bigger the challenge the better. This means you could use the hackathon to
- enable IoT use-cases
- connect BIM to blockchain (good luck convincing the skeptic Radu)
- automate Revit beyond any dream
- embed Alexa into Dynamo
- change the world in any other way
Please don’t limit yourselves to the ideas above, they’re only meant to illustrate the lack of limits during this hackathon.
With a focus on Generative Design
The Dynamo + Refinery team would especially love to see solutions around
- Generative Design
- AI/Machine Learning
- use of Autodesk Refinery
